The 76ers are expected to make a few announcements this offseason. The first one is set for today, though it doesn't involve the hire of a new coach or the signing of a free agent.

It looks as though the Sixers have purchased a team in the NBA's Development League, with a press conference set for this afternoon at 2 p.m. at the University of Delaware's Bob Carpenter Center.

The Sixers have been looking to acquire a franchise within the D-League since Josh Harris bought the team two seasons ago.

Harris and CEO Adam Aron will be on hand, as well as NBA D-League president Dan Reed, Delaware governor Jack Markell and University of Delaware president Patrick Harker among others.

Owning a D-League team close to home allows the Sixers, a green team, to further cultivate their youngest players. The call-ups and demotions of players with two years of experience or less are unlimited, per the last NBA collective bargaining agreement. The Sixers' D-League affiliate previously had been the Sioux Falls (N.D.) SkyForce.
