PHILADELPHIA - Eagles quarterback Michael Vick has graduated to Phase 2 in the five-step concussion protocol program he must complete without symptoms in order to be cleared to play.
While head coach Andy Reid hasn't ruled out Vick or running back LeSean McCoy this week, it's just a formality.
Neither practiced Friday. McCoy is still in Phase 1 according to Reid.
Phase 2 involves gym training, which Vick was spotted doing Friday morning as he rode an exercise bicycle.
If Vick has no symptoms he could advance to Stage 3, which is a more strenuous workout including head movement. While Phase 2 typically takes a day or two, Stage 3 usually requires more time.
Look for rookie quarterback Nick Foles to start his second straight game when the Eagles take on the Carolina Panthers Monday night at Lincoln Financial Field (8:30, PHL 17, ESPN, WIP 94.1-FM).
And for rookie Bryce Brown to start at running back.
In addition to Vick and McCoy, running back Chris Polk (turf toe), wide receiver Jason Avant (hamstring) sat out practice.
Polk won't play Sunday.
Dion Lewis and Brandon Boykin will take on or split the kickoff return duties that Brown manned the previous game.
Special teams coach Bobby April also said wide receivers Damaris Johnson and Mardy Gilyard were possibilities.
Gilyard, just hours later, was cut to make room for wide receiver Greg Sales, claimed off waivers from the Patriots.
Sales (6-1, 209, Hawaii) is a 2011 fourth-round pick of the Rams who in his rookie season caught 27 passes for 264 yards and returned two punts for 29 yards.
Sales played in one game for the Patriots.
Panthers rookie middle linebacker Luke Kuechly ranks among the league leaders with 97 tackles.
The first-round pick out of Boston College also has an interception.
Kuechly (6-3, 235) has confidence in defensive coordinator Sean McDermott, who was axed after two seasons in the same role with the Eagles.
"We all know he was with the Eagles," Kuechly said on a conference call. "He knows some of the guys. He's a good defensive coordinator. He's put us in great position the last couple of weeks to be successful. He's got another good game plan this week and moving forward we've just got to improve on the things that have slowed us down and keep doing what we've been doing well."
McDermott provided the Panthers (2-8) with a pretty good idea of what to expect when they play at Lincoln Financial Field.
"He just said that Monday night football up in Philadelphia, it's going to be loud and it's going to be kind of crazy up there," Kuechly said. "We've just got to be ready for that."
Eagles cornerback Troy Vincent and long-time ticket director Leo Carlin are slated to be inducted into the Eagles' Honor Roll Monday.
